About

Hi – My name is Kavita! Welcome to Excelliarmus!

I wrote this Excel knowledge blog to help YOU disarm the mystery of Microsoft Excel with easy to follow tips, tricks, how-to-guides, tutorials and demos.

Throughout my career I’ve been told my use of and knowledge of Excel and its inner workings is the stuff of magic and wizardry. Since I also play Dungeon’s and Dragon’s on the side, the idea of being able to do some actual magic in real life is intriguing! 🙂 But honestly, I promise you, mastering Excel is really not a magical skill shrouded in mystery! And I will prove this to you. I have already passionately helped rescue many laptops from being thrown out windows by helping those that have given up hope to find genuine joy in their use of Excel.

Why do I know so much about Excel?!

I’ve been using Excel extensively since childhood when I was naively trying to get my parents out of debt by attempting to analyse huge datasets of lottery results and seeing if I could predict the winning numbers in the next draw. You may be surprised to learn, I wasn’t successful in this endeavor. So instead I found myself fulfilling a career in Finance, specifically in Finance Planning and Analysis teams (commonly referred to as FP&A) mastering the art of analysis, modelling and forecasting through Excel and learning tips and tricks of the Excel trade along the way.

I can help you too!

I can help you discover quickly and easily just how to make Excel do what you need it to do so you can focus your time on using the information from your spreadsheet rather than gearing up for a long and difficult coffee fueled battle with Excel.

Do I know everything there is to know about Excel?!

I do in fact use Excel extensively both for work and personal use. I love it. I would genuinely be very upset if my day did not involve using Excel or spreadsheets (you may think I’m joking…but sadly I’m not!). Even if it doesn’t seem like an obvious choice, I’ll probably find a way to bring Excel along in a supporting role (e.g. holiday planning, to-do-lists, and my favourite – my home inventory list tracking our household consumables (like fabric conditioner!)). I have even taken it to an extreme and used excel to paint a still life scene because I incidentally forgot to pack my sketchbook during my daily commute (yes I’m an artist in my spare time too!)). And one of my biggest pet peeves is discovering that a dataset without an export to Excel or csv option (although there are workarounds for that if you discover such an issue and don’t want to copy and paste, or manually type, everything bit by bit! Watch this space!). Anyway I digress…

My point is that despite my extensive use of Excel, and those I work with believing that I am an expert in Excel, I love that every day I am still always discovering something new about Excel that I wish I knew before. A discovery that just instantly transformed my use of Excel! And a discovery that would feel incomplete if I didn’t also share it with friends like YOU to help make your life with Excel less painful too – and perhaps even convert you to loving Excel as much as I do! 🙂

Every day I discover something new about Excel that I wish I knew before. And I want to share that discovery with you!

Creating this website has been a long term dream of mine to help share what I have learnt over the years about Excel and hopefully continue to discover more with you! I’ll be filling this site with simple and complex (but simplified!) guides and handy tips and tricks, with lovely screenshots and perhaps even some videos and newsletters in the future!

Please do let me know what you think of this site and I always welcome feedback or requests for new Excel guides so keep them coming!
